The Popular EO Mini Pro 2 charger is a compact home ev charger which has proven to be popular in the UK. The charger is equipped with solar matching capabilities and load management (optional extras) that read the power being generated by your solar panels and set the charging rate to match the output of the solar array. This allows you to top up your vehicle from the sun and set the charging window during the day. Using the EO Smart Home app, you can set when your vehicle will charge according to the output of your solar array. The EO Mini Pro 2 has a maximum charging capacity of 7.2kWh and includes scheduling, solar charging, and optional power balancing features.

CHARGING RATE

Comparable with other fast chargers on the market, the EO Mini Pro 2 offers a reasonably speedy charging time- especially considering its compact size. The single-phase connection simply means that the power flows through a single conductor instead of three. While a three-phase charger can work faster, they are not compatible with various AC suppliers, and installing an appropriate cable comes with a price.

The charging rate of the EO Mini Pro 2 flows at 7.2kW, and is compatible with the domestic charging requirements of every electric vehicle on the market. The unit can be set to lower power output, though it cannot be done through the EO app and will require an EO-approved installer to adjust it.

As an added safety feature, the app will not allow charging to go live if your vehicle’s AMP (power) level is incorrect. While this can be annoying, it is for the client’s benefit; if the AMP setting is wrong, it can damage your electric vehicle’s battery!

This charging rate will take a Tesla Model 3 75kWh battery from 0-100% in just over 10 hours, evening out to be about 30 miles of range per hour.

TETHERING OPTIONS

The EO mini Pro 2 has the option of a 5m tethered cable (type 2) or an untethered universal socket making it compatible with all electric cars

COLOURS

Unlike some of the other chargers on the market the Mini Pro 2 has a wide range of colours available. These include Silver, White, Black & Blue. This can be useful to match the style of your home. The black model is great for its inconspicuous nature, whereas the white works perfectly for blending into preexisting external facilities and eaves.

LEAKAGE DETECTION

This charger has Integral 6mA DC leakage detection, so no Type B RCD (earth rod) is required. This safety feature ensures that the current generated by your charging unit stays grounded. If an issue occurred in the circuitry, the unit would detect the problem and prevent dangerous current leakage.

SOLAR CAPABILITY

The EO mini pro 2 does have solar matching capabilities as an additional extra. Priced at £60 this is a must if you have solar panels, albeit a little frustrating that it is not standard on the unit.

SIZE

Fortunately, one of the EO Mini Pro’s significant attractions is in its name- it’s mini! At only 175mm x 125 mm x 125 mm, it’s marketed as the smallest electric vehicle charger on sale.

The compact design of this charger means that the unit size ends up being that of an A5 notebook. Not only does a small-sized unit mean that it lacks unnecessary features, but most importantly, it allows for smooth integration with a domestic environment. Be it on the side of your garage or a post, this thing is barely noticeable (which is a good thing!).

Now, it’s easy to assume that you will be sacrificing important space for powering your vehicle with a small-sized port. Thankfully, the beauty of the Mini Pro 2 is that regardless of its subtlety, it still has the capacity to churn out 7.2kW to keep your car juiced and on the road efficiently.
