The free over the air updates ensure that you always have access to the latest features, while the fast charging capabilities make it perfect for busy lifestyles. Plus, there’s no need for an earth rod, making installation quick and easy. And for extra peace of mind, the remote software locking feature lets you restrict access to your charger as needed.
POWER OUTPUT/CHARGING RATE
The Andersen A2 EV Charger has 3kW, 7kW, and 22kW fast charging, IEC 61851-1 mode 3 and Compliance with IEC 62196-2 as well. With a speed of 7kW, this device adds up to 25 miles of range per hour.
CONNECTOR TYPE
The Andersen A2 charger comes complete with two high-performance and ultra-flexible cables. They are a tethered 7kW type 2 cable (5.5m or 8.5m) or a tethered 22kW cable (6.5m)
They can both be wound either clockwise or counter-clockwise. It is important to note that the Andersen A2 EV charger is strictly a tethered device.
SIZE
The device dimensions are 348mm wide x 494mm tall x 156mm deep.
DESIGN
The Andersen A2 would look good anywhere, with its sleek, simple, and inoffensive design. It comes in a variety of colours as well as the ability to choose to replace the traditional metal front panel with a more interesting (and expensive) Accoya wood panel.
To add-on the wood panel is a further £200 – you can choose from either Cotswold Oak, Sorong Teak, French Walnut, or Charcoal. However, you can still customise the A2 without shelling out the extra cash.
If you don’t feel like paying more for wood panelling (or just don’t like how it looks), there are still many standard colours to choose from that will suit the style of your home.
Customers can choose from Nearly Black, Steel, Malmo Blue, Ruby, Southbank Grey, Stanton Green, Laurac Sand, and Putty Stone for the front and back panels of your device.
CONNECTIVITY
To connect the Andersen A2, you must have a stable Wi-Fi network. The only way that this EV charger can access the internet is through Wi-Fi. It supports 802.11 b/g/n and 802.11 n (2.4 GHz), up to 150 Mbps.
One downside of this device is that it does not have Ethernet, which may be inconvenient for those with patchy WiFi.
However, the A2 has Bluetooth capability, so even if your internet connection is compromised you can assess and control all charging activity with your smartphone.
IS EARTH ROD BUILT IN?
When making a larger purchase such as this, it’s relevant to explore details surrounding the company before making your choice. So, who are Andersen as a company?
Andersen EV is in charge of creating the UK’s only premium EV charge point for your home. They boast “unrivalled” aesthetics that fit in well with the style and decor of any home.
Another thing about the Andersen A2 is that it’s supposedly easy to use, with flexible ways to store both charging cables. It’s also durable enough to withstand regular use without succumbing to general wear and tear.
So, why choose Andersen? Most people may say strictly because of convenience, but it’s all up to you.
To some EV owners, the question of solar-compatibility is paramount. How does the Andersen A2 measure up on this front?
Andersen EV have just been taken over by EVIOS Plc. For details of how this may affect you and any order can be found here. We are monitoring the situation particularly around prices.
IS THE ANDERSEN A2 EV CHARGER SOLAR COMPATIBLE?
Andersen boasts that their devices are compatible with all makes and models of type-2 electric and hybrid plug-in vehicles. Excess solar (or wind) power you generate can be harnessed for charging using the app.
Wind and hydropower do not require any additional settings as they connect through the same terminal as the solar panels.
You can charge your vehicle fully with solar or use a combination of solar and grid. The Zappi still works very well for customers using only grid power.
CHARGE SCHEDULING?
Connecting your phone to the charger via Bluetooth and using the companion app Konnect+ allows you to set up smart scheduling.
Smart scheduling can help you time your charges to take advantage of the off-peak rate on your energy tariff.
You also have the choice to use the power from your solar panels (if you have them) for charging your car- another feature which can be managed smartly through the phone app.
To maximise charging efficiency and tailor it to demand (i.e. if there is more than one EV at your house), you can create charging schedules in the app and use these interchangeably.
However, that is not all. There are many more features of the Anderson A2 that you can control via the app.
APP CONTROL?
You can remotely update from your phone so that any improvements Andersen makes to the AV software are only moments away.
You can schedule your charging sessions and integrate solar power into your charges from your phone as well.
After each charging session, you get a complete breakdown of the session and all the specs you need to keep your piece of mind. This is another useful feature that is easy to access within the app.
SIMILAR CHARGERS
As the Andersen A2 is a full featured and higher end EV charger we would recommend comparing to the popular Zappi Charger or the Indra Smart Pro. Feature wise these two chargers compare well with the Andersen A2. The asthetics on both are not quote up to the same level, which is to be expected with the higher price point of the Andersen.
The Hypervolt Charger brings a similar style with full features including solar integration.
